Inside the Castle
by Susan Thompson
Hi! I am Susan Thompson, artist and owner of Art from the Heart, and I have been drawing and painting from a very young age. When my children were born, I put my artwork away and concentrated on raising my children.
It wasn't until about 10 yrs ago when my husband and I were building our new home, that all I could envision on one of the walls, was a mural with a gazebo, being the focus of the painting. Surely, painting a mural couldn't be that hard. The worse that could happen would be that I would have to paint over it!
The next project was a painting on the kitchen soffit. My husband said after that was finished; "That looks great, but if you keep on painting, the house is going to look like a tattoo!" So I started my business; Art from the Heart.
Painting for other people took on a whole new area and I am always amazed at the ideas that people have! Murals, whether it be a home or office, reflect the personality of its' owner.
Recently, I finished a mural for Towers of Refuge church in Dublin Va. It is a 30 X 15 ft room, which was transformed into the inside of a castle for a youth room. All the elements of this mural were drawn to scale. After 200 hrs, it was completed.

My painting developed into other kinds of media as well; tile murals, painting on glass, wood, canvas, furniture and pretty much anything that I found interesting to paint.
One line of glass painting that I offer is called "Whimsy Doodles" which are whimsical, custom painted characters on large wine goblets. I paint them to "match" hair color, style, clothing, jewelry and much more. As an option, they can be inscribed and gift boxed. They make great gifts because they are fun and personal. Wedding parties, moms & dads as well as others, have become a big hit. They are available to be shipped.
